The Chicks Gold research team used Glassdoor, Numbbeo and Expatistan data to determine how much the lifestyle of each character would cost today when the show was created in 1998, and if they would be able to afford their sumptuous lifestyles in 2025.
Among the four main characters, Carrie’s lifestyle is the most unrealistic. Adjusted for inflation, its restoration lifestyle, high -end cocktails, luxury fashion and smoking cigarettes would cost $ 81,798 per year today.
As a weekly newspaper columnist, she would earn around $ 84,000 a year in the 2020s, which left only $ 2,202 for subsistence costs, including $ 50,988 for her rent controlled by the rent in the Upper East Side.
In season 4, Carrie reveals that she has only about $ 900 in her current account and $ 40,000 in shoes, clearly indicating that she could not afford her lifestyle even in the early 2000s.
