Quintaurus Wright, member of the Entergy Mississippi team, before (left) and after (right), annual health screening inspired him to take important measures for a healthier life.
Small steps lead to major results, including weight loss of 100 pounds
“A journey of a thousand kilometers begins with a single stage” is a Chinese proverb often cited credited with the philosopher Lao Tzu. For the member of the Entergy Mississippi team, Quintaurus Wright, it’s more than just a quote. It is living proof that small steps can lead to incredible results.
Jackson’s planner / planner, Wright remains planning work charged for major construction projects and was not sure that he had time to attend the annual health screening held last year at his office. Although he attended some of the health projections in the past, it’s been four or five years since the last one.
Fortunately for him, friends and colleagues knew the importance of obtaining your “figures”, the readings of high blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol are generally administered to health screening. These tests can provide crucial information on someone’s health. His friends strongly encouraged him – some could say to twist their arm – to attend health screening. With these encouragement, he took the first step in his career – raising health screening.
When he took his second step, attending health screening, he knew that his blood pressure could be high, as was in the past. However, he did not expect what happened next. Health professionals looked at his number and told him that his glucose reading was very high. He was so high, in fact, that he could be diabetic and suggested that he ask for additional medical advice.
Wright then made an appointment with a local doctor, who diagnosed him with type 2 diabetes, put him into medication and suggested that he adopts a healthy diet and incorporates the exercise in his activities.
“The diagnosis of diabetes really woke me up and opened my eyes,” said Wright. “It made me think of my family and the family members I had lost because of the disease. I started to eat well and exercise. I took it very seriously.
Now Wright takes action every day to lead a healthy life. It remains away from fried food, candy and sugary and gashed drinks. He limits the carbohydrates he includes in his meals and replaced the bread he bought with a low carbohydrate option.
He benefits from a variety of different types of exercises, including strength training, walking inside on a treadmill, walking outside when time allows and cycling.
“It was difficult at first, to abandon the food I loved and my favorite drink, the crush pineapple,” said Wright. “But I was focused. I wanted to live for my children and my family. I am so grateful to the people of my life who cared. »»
These small and not so small steps have caused significant changes. Its figures continue to improve. His visits once in the doctor for months have been reduced to three months. During his last visit, just a few weeks ago, the doctor told him that he could wait six months before his next meeting. The doctor removed one of his three drugs.
He feels better and sleeps better. He is no longer thirsty – a symptom of diabetes which he has not recognized as such before health screenings. The numbers on the scales have radically changed. Wright went from 345 pounds before his lifestyle changes at his current weight of 235 pounds.
“My colleagues no longer call me” Big Q, “said Wright. “They now call me” tiny Q “.”
His advice for anyone has access to health screening?
“Do health projections. You never know what’s going on in the body. If it was not for health screening, I would not live a healthier life today. I will always go to everything we have in the future and I am very grateful to my friends who encouraged me to go there last year. »»
Wright recently celebrated his birthday and, this year, he and his wife, Lakendra, a teacher in Byram, and their three daughters, Shaquondra, Shataria and Quintaria, had a lot to celebrate. His lifestyle changes gave everyone everyone’s greatest gift – many more birthdays with their husband and father.
