Today, NYC Health + Hospitals announced the appointments of Melissa L. Martin, MD, MPH and Lucan Rodrigues MD, CMD as the new Chief Medical Officers of NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler and NYC Health + Hospitals/McKinney.

Dr. Melissa Martin has served in a variety of senior medical leadership roles in large post-acute care facilities and managed care organizations in New York City for the past 15 years. Prior to joining NYC Health + Hospitals, Dr. Martin served as the Medical Director of ArchCare at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center, a 615-bed facility in Manhattan, where she directly supervised physicians and nurse practitioners. She led a rehospitalization project that reduced the 30-day rehospitalization rate from 28% to 13%. Dr. Martin also developed and implemented programs in palliative care, behavioral health, and heart failure. She served as medical director of New Jewish Home Manhattan (formerly Jewish Home Lifecare Manhattan), operating a 514-bed facility under the direct supervision of 22 physicians and nurse practitioners. Her other roles include medical director at HealthPlus Amerigroup Managed Care Company, based in New York, where she led the utilization management department.
Dr. Martin is board certified in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, and palliative care. She was a clinical assistant professor of geriatric and palliative medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai; and assistant professor of medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Yale University and her master’s degree in public health in health services management from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. She received her M.D. from Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
Dr. Lucan Rodrigues received his Certified Medical Director (CMD) designation from the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine, geriatrics, hospice and palliative medicine. Prior to joining NYC Health + Hospitals, Dr. Rodrigues served as Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Services at Silvercrest Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Queens, New York. He also served as Chief of Hospice Medicine and Palliative Care at Flushing Hospital Medical Center (FHMC).
Dr. Rodrigues received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Women’s Studies from SUNY Stonybrook. After receiving his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, he completed his residency and fellowship in geriatrics at NYU & Winthrop University Hospital, and served as chief nursing officer palliative care at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. Dr. Rodrigues also trained as a community service physician providing medical care in underserved areas of Bangladesh, with an emphasis on primary and secondary prevention.
