The republicans of the house tightened through their Package of fiscal alleviations of several dollars on Capitol Hill in the early morning Thursday According to the parties of the party without place to lose, with a Republican from New York one of the five who voted against the measure.

The bill costs some $ 4.5 billions of tax alternatives that the GOP designed during Trump’s first mandate in 2017, while adding new ones to which he campaigned during his campaign in 2024, notably without taxes on tips, overtime, car loan interests and others.

The American representative Mike Lawler, of the 17th district of the Hudson Valley Congress, was a critical vote on the legislation and only supported it after changes to the deduction of $ 10,000 for the taxes of states and premises, called Salt, bringing it to $ 40,000 for revenues of up to $ 500,000. The current $ 10,000 ceiling was adopted by the Republicans in their 2017 tax plan under the first term of President Donald Trump. The ceiling is disproportionately injured taxpayers in blue states like New York, where income taxes and state income are relatively high.

“There were key provisions that helped reduce the overall tax burden, but we know that the salt ceiling had a negative impact on New York,” said Lawlern an interview on Inside the town hall Wednesday evening.

Lawler said that he and others in Salt Caucus “have negotiated in good faith with leadership, with the White House”.

“We want to make sure that this is intended for the middle class, that we bring real tax relief to families who have been crushed by the highest tax burden in New York under the regulations of the Democratic Party,” said Lawler.

Salt changes have also been applauded by the representative of the North Country Elise Stefanik region.

“More than 77 million Americans have given the Republicans of the Chamber and President Trump a mandate to reduce taxes, guarantee our borders, restore energy independence and provide peace by force. This legislation includes key arrangements that will benefit the working families in New York who work hard,” Stefanik said in a statement. “I was particularly proud to work with my Republican colleagues from New York to lead to providing significant tax relief for New Yorkers by increasing the state tax ceiling and 300% local – a victory for families who work hard to fight under the weight of the highest tax burden in the country due to the end of tax fonts and Democrats of the Kathy Hochul government.”

Representative Nick Langworthy, in the 23rd district of the West New York Congress, said that the unified democratic opposition to the measurement means that they “voted to increase your taxes”.

“This bill offers historical tax relief for the families of the working class and the middle class, by stopping the expiration of Trump tax reductions, improves the standard deduction, stimulates the tax credit for children and ends taxes on advice and overtime – to name only a few,” said Langworthy in a press release.

There has not yet been a statement from representative Andrew Garbarino, from Long Island, the only Republican in New York and one of the five countries that voted “no” on the bill.

Joining Garbarino joined the entire Democratic Caucus, which has decried the modifications of Medicaid and the food coup program, largely by imposing work requirements for several profits. The non -partisan congress budget office estimates that 8.6 million less people would have health care coverage and 3 million less people per month would have benefits with the changes offered.

The head of the minority Hakeem Jeffries, also from New York, read Americans’ letters describing how the program cuts would harm them on the floor of the room, calling it “a great ugly invoice”.

“Today, each Democrat in the House voted to stop the biggest cups in Medicaid and food assistance in American history,” said Jeffries. “GOP’s tax scam tears health care and food assistance far from millions of people in order to provide tax reductions to the rich, the wealthy and well connected.”

Other Democrats have called it a “major bill” or a “big broken promise”.

“I voted not on the Budget reconciliation bill of the GOP because no quantity of spin Maga can change the fact that it will remove food assistance from children and the elderly, the disabled and vulnerable health band, and to the saddle of the nation with billions of dollars of new debts. said in a press release. “I cannot support such broad and erroneous reductions in programs such as Snap and Medicaid, and I will not let the NY-22 be fooled. These are not reforms that target waste and fraud – they are reductions in deep funding with real painful costs for daily Americans. ”

The new member of the Democratic Congress in sprawling 19th The district also underlined the proposed reductions in its opposition.

“The Republicans of the Chamber are so determined to give large companies and campaign donors another tax relief that they blocked my amendment to reduce the cost of prescription drugs for workers’ families,” said representative Josh Riley in a statement. “I do not know a single person in New York State who thinks that our children should be hungry, our rural hospitals should close, or that 33,000 people in # NY19 should lose their health care so that billionaires and rich can get another break. I voted to hell no. “

The CBO said the tax provisions would increase federal deficits by 3.8 billions of dollars during the decade, while the changes made to Medicaid, food coupons and other services would total $ 1 billion of reduced expenditure.

The legislation now goes to the American Senate, where it could undergo changes.
