A fortune and growing RV park right next to Highway 1 in North Vancouver is the source of growing concern for neighbors and the city.
A dozen people live in VRs and temporary structures on the site known as Bowser Island.
William Cook is a resident of Bowser Island And told Global News that he used to park near Crab Park in downtown Vancouver, but when the community had become too large, he said they had moved to Bowser Island.
“It has been 10 years since anyone who has used this land for something other than that,” he said.
Cook said he had lived there for about a year and chooses to live in a motorhome.
“It is difficult to reach both ends in this city, it is a super expensive city in which to live,” he added. “Not everyone living in a VR is not a terrible person or a threat to society.”

The neighbors have told Global News that access to this site requires dangerous deactivation on the highly frequented highway, and that the property, which had houses on it, currently has no water, energy or sewers.

“For us, this is mainly a security problem,” said Colin Metcalfe de la Pemberton Heights Community Association. “We see vehicles entering and getting out of this area, there were houses in this area, they were removed due to the concern of security and now we continue to see the VR and cars entering and getting out of this area.”
He said there had been narrow calls and that they fear that a serious or fatal accident can occur one day.
The release of Bowser Island is located right next to the exit from Capilano Road in the eastern direction of the upper road. Metcalfe said that people who came out of the high -speed highway might not have enough reaction time to stop or go around a vehicle or VR arrested while waiting to turn.
“You have to cross a double yellow line to enter this neighborhood,” said Metcalfe.
Cook thinks that civil servants offer apologies to draw attention to the community so that they can get rid of it.
“Me and my little mess here (is) a security problem compared to the overview?” Cook said. “I don’t see it. I do not see myself causing new avenues of concern for anyone. »»
The land belongs to the British Columbia Ministry of Transport and Minister Mike Farnworth said planning was underway to move campers, then clean and secure the site.
“It’s about finding them another place to go,” said Farnworth.
“And this is what the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing does. When it is done, there will be restrictions or a door placed. »»
