North Memorial Health will close its primary care clinic in downtown Minneapolis on July 31, will move staff and patients to their location from St. Anthony.
Patients who have scheduled for After July 31 at Skyway The downtown clinic opposite Walgreens next to Gaviidae Common will be instead of the St. Anthony clinic. The meetings will remain on the same date and time, but at the new location, which is about 20 minutes by car.
A spokesperson for North Memorial Health said in a statement that the decision “reflects the demand for the change of patients and a reduction in the use of the clinic in the region of the city center of Minneapolis and helps us to better align access to care with our main areas of service.”
Thursday afternoon, the changing dynamic was clear. While hundreds of people passed the clinic on the Skyway during their lunch breaks, the hall inside was silent, almost empty.
North Memorial operates a network of metro clinics and Twin Cities hospitals in Robbinsdale and Maple Grove. But the closure of the city center location occurs in the middle of wider financial pressure in the health system.
Financial pressures forced North Memorial Health to eliminate 103 jobs in 2024 and stop ambulatory mental health services in its Robbinsdale hospital, its flagship establishment.
