Despite several days of demonstrations by hundreds of demonstrators at the G7 summit, the head of the security of the event said that no one had been arrested and that no tickets were issued.

“Those who choose to express themselves largely have led in a legal, peaceful and safe manner,” said the chief of the RCMP. David Hall of Integrated security and security group, At a press conference in Calgary on Wednesday.

The massive security force was a joint operation led by the RCMP, with the help of the Calgary police, Alberta sheriffs, forestry and Alberta parks and the Canadian armed forces.

The demonstrations at the G7 summit were limited to 3 officially designated protest zones in Calgary and one in Banff.

The biggest security threat has come When Norad (North American Defense Command) was forced to jostle the CF-18 hunting planes to intercept a small civil plane that entered the air exclusion area around the summit site in the country of Kananaskis, about an hour west of Calgary.

After “multiple steps” to attract the attention of the pilots, before resorting to “final warning measures”, the pilots of fighter aircraft were able to land the pilot in Brooks, Alberta, about two hours east of Kananaskis, where the pilot was encountered by the RCMP.

Temporary airspace restrictions have been set up during the summit at less than 30 sea miles centered in the village of Kananaskis and within a radius of 20 nabin miles from Calgary International Airport.

Until now, no explanation has been provided to the public on the reasons why the plane has entered the limited airspace.

“For the moment, the RCMP has not paid charges, and some of our partner agencies are considering applicable regulatory offenses, but at that time I do not believe that costs have been placed at this stage,” said Hall.

“If criminal accusations were to be deposited – and at this stage, it is premature to say whether or not it would be done by the RCMP. However, there are other regulatory offenses, which could be more suitable for the occasion at the end of an investigation, and these would be managed by other agencies such as Transportation Canada, “added Hall.

Supt. Brian Sundberg with Alberta Forestry and Parks said that the security forces also responded to around 200 incidents related to wildlife in the region around the summit.

“About half of them were Grizzly Bear and Black Bear reports,” said Sundberg. “I am very happy to say that all of this is a minor nature and, therefore, we have been able to take minimum measures to keep the risk for fauna and bears away and there was no relocation or any significant effort.”

The G7 security forces said they had responded to more than 200 fauna complaints during the event, with about half of them involving concerns about grizzly ones or black bears.

Sundberg said the security teams had been able to use bears, bear bangers, chalk balls and other deterrents – and in some dogs – to scare animals. They were also ready to use traps if necessary.

“I am very happy to say that all these elements are a minor nature and, therefore, we were able to take minimum measures to keep the risk for fauna and bears away and there were no relocation or no significant effort,” added Sundberg.

The final cost of security for the summit has not yet been announced.

“It is important to remember that we haven’t finished,” said Hall. “We have a lot of work to do to demobilize our security posture – all our respective organizations must in a way finish their operations and, to some, we will compensate for all these costs and these will be made public.”
