Last week, NJBIA Director of Government Affairs Christopher Emigholz joined NJ Morning Show on ONNJ to discuss the association’s recently hosted Public Policy Forum, featuring five gubernatorial candidates, as well as the 66 NJBIAth Annual Business Outlook Survey.
Emigholz told morning hosts Cara Di Falco and Dina Deleasa-Gonsar that the focus on improving the tax situation of New Jersey businesses was not surprising at the Public Policy Forum and in the survey.
“Businesses pay about half of the state’s property taxes, and for many small businesses, it’s the highest tax they pay,” Emigholz said.
“What bothers me about New Jersey is we have this unforgiving tax environment where the four major taxes are all very high. We are unique in that we are the only state in the country where we rank in the top third on each of the four major taxes – property, income, sales and corporate taxes. This is not something we want New Jersey to be known for.
