HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) – In less than a week, Nisu Bakery & Cafe has raised more than $2,700 to support the purchase of a new oven motor.
“It’s way more than I expected, but it covers it exactly,” said owner Irma Boyd.
The restaurant set a goal of raising $2,300 the day after Christmas. after the motor of one of its two ovens stopped workingwhich hampers production. Boyd says the business will be back on track soon.
“Hopefully within a week and a half, due to the holidays, we will be up and running with both ovens,” Boyd continued. “I hope sooner.”
Boyd would like to thank the many community members and businesses who have donated, including A-1 General Contracting in Hancock. The company donated an undisclosed amount to not only meet but exceed the goal.
In a statement to TV6, Keith Bastion, owner of A-1 General Contractor, said:
“We are pleased that A-1 can participate in the effort to help a local business.”
Boyd says having both ovens up and running will help her achieve her goal of selling the business, as she hopes to find someone who will continue to run it as is. Although she loves being part of Hancock’s business community, she says her daughter needs a place with access to more resources.
“I will leave my recipes, my secret recipes, that come from my lineage,” Boyd added. “And then also, I would stay and teach them how to make them for two weeks, for a month, any time they needed to show them the ropes and, of course, specialty baking.”
Boyd encourages anyone interested to contact her. You can contact through the store’s Facebook page or call (906) 523-5398.
