When Emmy Awards sports recognize excellence in sports television in 2024, nine nominations will be linked to the NHL, including two projects produced by the League itself.
It is the most closely since Steve Mayer joined the NHL in January 2016.
“Think about it,” said Mayer, president of NHL content and events. “Every night, there are so many shows, and everything is reduced to five nominated in each category. And we are new? It’s crazy for me. This is where it’s really cool. I’m really proud of many people.”
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominees this week. The 46th annual ceremony will be held at Lincoln Center in New York on May 20.
ESPN has received seven nominations: Exceptional published special for “No Easy Victories: The 1994 New York Rangers”; Open / teport and modification in support – Short form for “Gloves – The history of Phil Pritchard and the Stanley Cup”; Exceptional digital innovation for “NHL in ASL”; Audio / exceptional sound – live event for “NHL SUR ESPN”; Studio design or art direction or exceptional production for the NHL 2024 project; And the George Wesel Technical Achievement Award in part for “NHL Big City Greens Classic”.
TNT received two nominations: Exceptional Studio Show – Run Limited for “NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs on TNT” and Exceptional Audio / Sound – Event live for “NHL Winter Classic on TNT”.
“We are really proud of what our rights and partners have produced,” said Mayer. “They continue to get out of great products, and we are so happy for them that they have been recognized. I am sure that the competition will be difficult. You know the night of the show that we are going to encourage.”
The NHL has produced the recovery of the NHL 2024, the first live sporting event at Sphere in Las Vegas, and “NHL in ASL”, a first program of the Stanley 2024 Cup final in American sign language.
