Will the Tennessee Titans take a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick? 2025 NFL Draft?
Miami QB Cam Ward continues to be favorite for Titans selection at BetMGMbut it’s much closer than before. As of Wednesday afternoon, Ward is -115 to be the top pick after being a Heisman finalist in 2024.
Ward finished fourth in voting behind Colorado’s Travis Hunter, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel as he threw for 39 touchdowns and more than 4,300 yards in his lone season with the Hurricanes.
Hunter is now the No. 2 favorite to be the top pick, and his odds have become much shorter recently. As of Tuesday morning, Hunter was +1500 odds to be the Titans’ first overall pick. As of Wednesday morning, Hunter’s odds were down to +625.
As Hunter was at +625, Ward was at -185. But Hunter then fell to +200 later Wednesday, while Ward’s odds grew. Could this have something to do with what Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker said Wednesday during general manager Mike Borgonzi’s introductory press conference?
Brinker said the Titans would not pass up a “generational talent” at n°1. Nothing against Ward or Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders – the No. 3 favorite to go No. 1 overall at +220 – but Hunter seems to be the only player who easily matches that level throughout his college career, unless the Titans are. really in love with either quarterback.
The defensive back and wide receiver have done things throughout 2024 that no one in modern college football has done. Hunter was Colorado’s best wide receiver and best cornerback as the Buffaloes finished in a four-way tie for first place in the Big 12. He almost never missed a play when healthy and had 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns while totaling 36 tackles, four interceptions and 11 passes defensed.
Ward and Sanders, meanwhile, are considered the top two quarterbacks in what is considered a weak class. Although both players will likely be in the top 10 at worst, it is very possible that no other quarterbacks will be selected in the first round.
They are also the favorite to go No. 1 because of the Titans’ need at the QB position. Tennessee selected Will Levis in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but Levis hasn’t shown himself to be the answer over his first two seasons. In 12 games in 2024, Lévis completed 63% of his passes for 2,091 yards and 13 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. He was replaced by Mason Rudolph as the Titans’ starter near the end of the season before starting the team’s Week 18 loss to the Texans.
