Electric workers in the city of Calgary Shed Voted in favor of a strike, their union said on Friday.
According to the electrical workers (IBEW) section, section 254, 98.5% of nearly 400 employees, it represents in favor of strike authorization.
This decision legally gives the Union the authorization to serve Enmax with a 72 -hour strike notice.
“We are looking for a new collective agreement which reflects the value that our members bring to the organization,” said Brad Dougherty with the IBEW local 254 in an interview with Global News.
“(Enmax) had record successes and our members are essential to contribute to this success, as well as to the city of Calgary. We seek to have this recognition of our value. ”

Dougherty said that the result shows that members are unified, but they do not seek a disturbance in the services.
The IBEW local 254 section represents nearly 400 outdoor technicians and has been out of a contract since the end of last year.
According to the summary of the collective government of Alberta, the two parties were involved in mediation.
“We are committed to returning to the table with Enmax and having significant conversations in order to reach an agreement,” said Dougherty.
“The plan is to meet and take these discussions and achieve a fair settlement that works for both parties.”
In a press release, Enmax said he had worked with the IBEW local section 254 to a renewed collective agreement in recent months.
“Although we are disappointed by the result of the vote, we appreciate the members of our union team and we hope that we will be able to reach a fair and balanced agreement without disruption of our operations,” said the city service belonging to the city.
According to Dougherty, the two parties work to finalize the dates to return to the table next week.
