The Council of Professors of the University of Missouri discussed potential policies that could prohibit all teachers, staff and students from betting on Mizzou and any Umsystem system Thursday afternoon in Cornell Hall.
While Missouri voters narrowly approved amendment 2 During the general elections in November, legalizing approved sports betting, Missourians are still unable to place sports betting.
For people to place sports betting in the state, the Missouri Gaming Commission must open license applications for Sportsbooks, which are websites or buildings where a player can bet on sports competitions.
Sports books online, such as fanatics, draft crafts and fanduelle, must receive a license from the state in order to accept sports betting from Missourians.
The Commission hopes to have these applications open in mid-May, According to his website.
Pam Bruzina, the athletics representative of the Faculty of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, made a presentation to the council of teachers at his meeting on Thursday to tackle sports betting in colleges and the impact he has on athlete students, staff, teachers and the general student body.
The main proposal that Bruzina presented was the idea of the university prohibiting students, staff and teachers to bet on the athletics of Mizzou.
“This is in accordance with certain policies implemented by other universities, this was a point of discussion during the NCAA meetings, during the meetings of representatives of the athletics of the faculty,” said Tom Warhover, president of the Mu Faculty Council.
Bruzina mentioned the current ban on sports betting from the Purdue University as that which MU could potentially reflect.
Purdue University Sports betting policy Prohibit PURDUE “The faculty, staff, students and independent entrepreneurs to place, accept or solicit a sports bet (for the name or on behalf of the others) in any team of Purdue, student-athlete, coach, statistical event, competition or event”.
Although sports betting are legal in Indiana, Purdue has implemented this policy while the university calls its teachers, staff and students to act at a higher level than what the law needs, says the school website.
Purdue’s ban includes sports betting made on campus and even in other states or countries.
“It is really more a declaration of value in cultures than we are going to make the police,” said Bruzina at the meeting.
The proposal would be strictly at the level of the UM system policy, without the need for state legislature, Warhover said.
“It is simply:” How are we going to university? “” Said Warhover, stressing Bruzina’s point.
The ban has only been introduced as a potential proposal at the meeting, and there are still many measures that the university should take for this to happen.
“It’s just an idea at this stage,” said Warhover. “There is no farm yet.”
The university would not have to go through the state legislature because it is only a change in policy, said Warhover.
