More than 50,000 Palestinians were killed during the Israeli military campaign in Gaza, the Ministry of Health of the territory announced.
This number – 50,021 – is equivalent to around 2.1% of the population of 2.3 million pre -war of the territory, or about 1 in 46.
In total, 113,274 others were injured during the same period, the Ministry of Health said.
The figures of the Ministry of Health of Gaza (MOH) have been widely used throughout the war and are considered reliable by the United Nations (UN) and international institutions. But Israel systematically challenged data published by the Gaza authorities.
International journalists, including the BBC, are blocked by Israel to penetrate Gaza independently, are therefore not able to check the figures on each side.
The figures published by the MOH for the number of people killed do not make the difference between civilians and combatants.
In November, the UN Human Rights Office said that its analysis showed Almost 70% of victims verified over a six -month period were women and children.
In January, the Lancet Medical Journal published a study that suggested the The number of deaths could actually be significantly higher that the official figures reported by the MOH – up to 41%.
The war was triggered by the attack on Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023, in which around 1,200 people, mainly civilians, were killed and 251 other hostages taken.
Israel responded to the October 7 attack with a massive military offensive, which caused great destruction to houses and infrastructure, in addition to people killed or injured.
The MOH also reported at least 39 deaths on Sunday in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people killed at 673 since Israel resumed its military operations on the territory on Tuesday.
