The Moody College of Communication will offer a new sports production and minor distribution in collaboration with Texas Athletics from the fall of 2025, according to a February 11 February press release.

The minor of 15 credits is open to students of any major. Applications for the minor will open in August and students must have taken an introductory course before applying, according to the College website. The program will introduce new classes and give students access to the installations and experienced staff of Texas Athletics while continuing the minor, said Cassandre Alvarado, the main partner of undergraduate education at Moody College.

The College currently offers introductory lessons for sports production and dissemination and will be “underway in” higher division courses in the next semesters, including a sports narration course and advanced production and dissemination courses , said Alvarado.

The program focuses on “practical learning”, much like the film school, said Ali Forbes, professor of Radio-Television film. She said that she expects collaboration to position the UT sports production and radio broadcast program to become one of the best in the country. The experience of developing “tangible skills” by working in the field will make students an asset for professional organizations and will create a “clear path between obtaining the diploma and employment,” she said.

“This program will grow very quickly, and we really have the chance to be here for the moment,” said Forbes.

The first-year student of journalism Adamaris Olivares-Lopez said that she had mainly chosen to attend the UT to explore the sporting side of journalism, and that she is delighted to continue sports production and minor broadcasting .

“Even if we are the guinea pigs for future generations that can go through this minor, it would be great,” said Olivares-Lopez.
