Tokyo – The number of teams from Major League baseball teams which can be watched directly to consumers has doubled during the offseason, at 26 out of 30.
The most recent on the list are the three teams broadcast by a regional sports station NBC: the giants of athletics, phillies of Philadelphia and San Francisco and the Dodgers of Los Angeles, carried by Sportsnet La.
Fans who live inside the television territories of these teams can now register to broadcast matches without the need for a complete television pack, such as cable or satellite.
A (on NBC Sports California) and Giants (NBC Sports Bay Area) will be available for $ 19.99 per month. Philadelphia Sports (NBC Sports) cost $ 24.99 per month. A Dodgers subscription costs $ 29.99 per month, or $ 199.99 per year.
MLB had 13 teams available directly to consumers at the end of last season.
“We are delighted to associate ourselves with NBC to continue to increase the scope of MLB games for our fans,” said Noah Garden, assistant commissioner of the MLB for business and the media in a press release. “We are working hard with our clubs and our RSNs to solve one of the best numbers that baseball fans have for years, which has been failures. This agreement with NBC marks an important step in this effort because we now have almost 90% of the League with a DTC streaming option available on their market.”
The other nine teams recently available to broadcast This year, the braves of Atlanta, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians, Los Angeles Angels, Minnesota Twins, New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers.
“The biggest thought is adapted to fans, right?” Commissioner Rob Manfred said last month. “As long as this digital product is there, the fan, whether it is the best option or not, has an option to get the games and it’s really important.”
The four teams that cannot be watched directly to consumers include the two broadcasts by the Mid-Atlantic sports network, the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals, as well as the Houston Astros (Space City Network) and Seattle Mariners (Root Sports). Nationals are free to leave Masn after this year.
MLB has long offered a streaming package for the out of market visualization of fans, called MLB.TV. But this package is only for fans who look outside the territory of a team. Through her, a New York fan can watch the giants play in the bay region, but a fan of San Francisco cannot. This is where streaming options on the newly available market come into play.
