Salt Lake City – Miller Sports and Entertainment concluded a business to buy Real Salt Lake and the Royals of Utah, the organization announced on Friday morning.

A press conference took place in America First Field to officially announce the agreement.

Miller Sports + Entertainment CEO Steve Starks confirmed “the acquisition of control interests” in RSL Football Holdings. David Blitzer will always be an invested partner, but Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) will no longer be involved.

The purchase includes Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Utah Royals FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), as well as the Real Monarchs of MLS Next Pro and the RSL Academy. Real estate assets include America First Field, Zions Bank Stadium and Zions Bank Training Center.

“We are honored to join Real Salt Lake Club and invest in the highest levels of male and female football in RSL and in the Royals,” said Starks. “We are grateful to David Blitzer’s confidence, and I am convinced that our experience combined in sports leadership will increase football within UTAH and will support the club’s goal of winning championships. We are proud to join “Riot” and an incredibly passionate database. “

Reports have surfaced for the first time at the end of March that discussions on this sale occur.

David Blitzer as owner of Real Salt Lake, Utah Royals FC

Blitzer and Smith Entertainment Group bought Real Salt Lake in January 2022 to end a two -year -old sequence without property that started in 2020 with the dismissal of former owner Dell Loy Hansen.

The transaction included the Rio Tinto Stadium, the Zions Bank Training Center and the RSL Academy in Herriman, Utah.

The day after the purchase of the UTAH MLS team, Blitzer and Seg published a statement on their intention to bring the NWSL back to the hive state. They held this promise a little more than a year later when the League announced its intention to extend to three cities – San Francisco, Boston and Utah. The Royals resumed the game in 2024.

In three seasons under the current property, Real Salt Lake made the playoffs and finished with a record of the Top-Seven in the MLS each year.

“We could not be happier to welcome the Miller family in the club,” said Blitzer. “We are aligned with our values and our commitment to constitute a great culture and teams at the level of the championship. Our sports teams are the best when we have a solid and local partner, and Miller Sports + Entertainment will really allow Real Salt Lake Holdings to achieve our visionary goals. I loved my experience in Utah, and it is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our strong bases of fanbase and loyal folies. ”

About the Miller family

The group of companies Larry H. Miller, founded by Larry and Gail Miller in the late 1970s, has been a keystone of Utah Sports for decades.

It all started with the Utah Jazz half-purchase which ultimately became a complete purchase in 1986. Jazz was a franchise in difficulty when Miller concluded the agreement, but his bet turned out to be more than a valid investment. The team was sold in SEG in 2020 for $ 1.66 billion.

“The future of Real Salt Lake is in great hands with the Miller and David Blitzer organization,” said MLS commissioner, Don Garber. “The thousands have a long -standing commitment to the community, sports for young people and solid commercial operations, and we have a proven history with David, one of the most accomplished sports owners in the world. Together, this group is perfectly positioned to strengthen the club and develop football in Utah and the region. ”

In addition to more than three decades as owners of Utah Jazz, the thousands also owned the Bees Salt Lake, the Eagles Golden Salt Lake and Utah Starzz.

The Miller family and the company Larry H. Miller also lead the Big League Utah MLB Coalition, which aims to position Salt Lake City as an ideal market for an MLB franchise.
