Middletown should be the first city of Connecticut to add the technology to apply speed to the streets.
The Connecticut Ministry of Transport has recently approved The city plan To add three -seater technology.
The drivers who live in the city, say that the action to slow down people is late.
“I know there are several accidents just in this street,” Xiao Quing said, who lives next to Washington Street in Middletown.
She said that speed is out of control, our cameras catching many people on the legal limit to make a yellow light.
“I am for them, people fly on these roads, and it is time for something to happen,” said Joe Seagrave.
Others immediately accepted.
“Each section here is horrible,” said Theresa Madera.
Middletown’s plan has been approved by CT DOT. Two of the systems are in school zones, near the Spencer primary school and the Moody school in the city. The third system is on Washington Street near the intersection with rue George.
“People run through red fires, and therefore security is certainly important,” said Madera.
For 30 days after installation, warnings will be used for drivers taken in the system, then fines start at $ 50 for the first offense, and all subsequent offenses cost you $ 75.
Money comes back to road safety infrastructure or security initiatives.
“It’s good, the speed becomes uncontrollable, we have to do something,” said Seagrave about fines.
“It should be higher, certainly, certainly,” said Madera.
Middletown is the third municipality to obtain technology with Washington (the first) and Marlborough.
Six others are still in the planning phase, notably Greenwich, Hamden, New Haven, Stamford, Stratford and Wethersfield.
“I do not think that people should consider it as a frightening tactic, it is the application of the law that tries to ensure the safety of individuals,” Kimberly Przeszlowski told Quinnipiac University.
She said technology is not perfect, but has been adopted in many states beyond Connecticut. It can also be very precious, as long as he does not replace the police.
“These technologies are supposed to be dissuasite, but when we are talking about deterrence, we have to talk about travel,” said Przeszlowski.
For those who live in the community, it is a welcome step towards the safer streets.
“Really appreciate it,” said Madera.
We also found a woman who did not want to go to the camera, who said she was concerned about privacy. Which is also discussed in the plan.
