Provincial transit agency Metrolinx separated from the consortium he hit barely a year ago to redesign the operation of his network to create a “faster and more frequent” train service.
In January 2024, Metrolinx announced that it had accepted an onxpress proposal – composed of the German train operator Deutsche Bahn and the Canadian concessions Aecon – to plan and manage its rail system.
Onxpress had to start working and maintaining Go train systems from January 2025. The group was also responsible for offering a better faster train service while Ontario converts the GO network to run a more efficient electric fleet.

The Ford government said that the agreement with Onxpress – which was unveiled in 2022 – “would modernize and transform” the rail network.
Only a few months after being supposed to have taken the upper hand over the operations of Go, however, Deutsche Bahn and the Canadian concessions of the aneas separated from Metrolinx.
“Onxpress Operations Inc. obtained the contract to resume the operations and the interview of Go Rail and Up Express as of January 1, 2025,” said Metrolinx spokesperson.
“While the two teams have worked closely for this objective, the parties work on a friendly regulation to end the partnership.”
Alstom, who currently operates Go Trains, will continue his role, according to the agency.
The agency did not explain why the agreement had failed, or how many was spent during the partnership to date.
Metrolinx undertakes to provide a safe and reliable transit service, with more than 120,000 people who count on Go Transit and UP Express every day.
“METROLINX undertakes to provide a safe and reliable public transport service, with more than 120,000 people who count on Go Transit and UP Express every day,” said the agency.
The contract was to take place for 23 years.
