Students of Mercer University preparing for higher or professional studies in the health professions can connect with other people following a similar course thanks to the new program of pre-health ambassadors.
Pre-health ambassadors are men of the upper class on the professional tracks of pre-health who are eager to offer support and advice, said Dr. Carol Bokros, director of professional pre-health programs at Mercer.
Ambassadors have office hours from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with overtime from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday. They meet on the ground floor of the Tarver library.
“I want students to feel comfortable enough to simply pass and ask simple questions, for example should I consume organic products this summer?” I want them not without assistance to a given day, “said Dr. Bokros, who launched the ambassadors’ program in the spring of 2024.
Mercer has more than 1,000 students through 18 available pre-health tracks. Even if Dr. Bokros offers advice, she is often busy and ambassadors can offer advice and support on site, she said.

“It was as if I would have benefited from something,” said candle for her decision to become an ambassador. “Fortunately, I had friends and mentors who were upper classes and who helped me a lot. But I realized that there was a lot of uncertainty and loneliness in the pre-medical experience because sometimes people compare and are very competitive. So I think it’s a way for people to get advice in a really safe environment.

In addition, pre-health students have access to an abundance of resources thanks to Pre-university and professional school lessons in canvas. Students interested in health professions, higher education or the law faculty can register themselves during the course, which is not credited.
The course provides relevant advice, resources, FAQ and contact information. It also includes modules that cover subjects such as understanding your motivations for your pre-professional work, becoming a competitive candidate and writing your candidacy for a vocational school.
“These health pre-metal sectors are difficult. If students want to become professionals, they must take responsibility for their own success, “said Dr. Bokros. “My goal is to help them, but they have to take the reins. »»
