
The engineer in mechanics and dean partner Chant June Oh was appointed interim dean of the Engineering and ITfrom June 1.
“My loyalty and my deep connection with the college and the university arise from the immense joy, the support and the stability that the college and the university have provided me, me and my family,” said Oh.
Oh, who joined Cal State Fullerton in August 2008 and is a dean partner of the college since July 2016, was selected following the comments of teachers and staff.
“The teachers and the staff indicated a strong preference for a collaborative, transparent and innovative leader, emphasizing stability,” said Amir Dabirian, provost and vice-president of academic affairs.
Dean Susamma (Susan) Barua, who has held the role since 2016 and 37 years of service at Cal State Fullerton, retired at the end of the semester.
Among the most enriching experiences of OH at CSUF, it is when the former students return to the campus to share their successes and think about how Cal Fullerton has shaped and transformed their career path.
“One of my objectives is to direct and support the college by promoting sustainable ties, where the ancients have a deep feeling of belonging and continue to engage with the university as a professional and university home for life,” he said.
Oh added that the establishment of relations with students, teachers, staff and others is important to him.
“In the past 17 years, I have had the chance to meet extraordinary colleagues who have naturally become friends for life,” he said.
“Their support and dedication allow me to meet the challenges with confidence while we work together to cultivate an optimal learning environment for our engineering and computer science students – future leaders who will lead innovation through California and beyond.”
After winning a baccalaureate, a master and a doctorate. Diplomas in mechanical engineering, all of the University of Columbia, Oh began his teaching and research career at university as a speaker.
He passed through the ranks of the Faculty of the Mechanical Engineering Department and became an associate professor in 2015 and a full professor in 2022. He was president of the department from 2015 to 2016.
As a dean partner in the past nine years, OH has directed and supported numerous university operations, including registration management, student internships and the diploma delivery initiative of California State University 2025. He also directed efforts to ensure that the college responds to quality standards established by ABET (formerly the Acceleration Council for Engineering and Technology).
Over the years, OH has participated in numerous university committees, including the Academic Standard Committee, the Petition Committee and the Surveillance Committee of the Strategic Plan. He is currently co -director of Project breederSupported by an American subsidy of the Ministry of Education dedicated to the improvement of the disciplines of transfer students in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines.
Oh, whose research interests include assistance technology and Biomedical engineeringPostdoctoral positions completed in neuroscience at Yale University and Johns Hopkins University.
He demonstrated his commitment to the success of students by teaching 13 distinct conference and laboratory courses. OH has also supervised students on various research projects in mechanical engineering, in particular publications co-written by its students.
His dedication to promoting an academic environment centered on students has earned him the recognition of the campus, including the prize of the educator of the year 2009 of the Associated Students Inc. He received recognition of the faculty development center for his teaching, the support of graduate students and achievements in Abet accreditation.
