E-Comm says it handles about 2 million calls a year, but not all of them are considered emergencies.
The 2024 list tops complaints about a neighbor wearing too much cologne, a stain left on a shirt by a dry cleaner and an unopened McDonald’s restaurant.

Other inappropriate 911 calls included one to alert authorities to a purchase of 38 rotten avocados in a box, another to report a “domestic-looking rabbit in a park” and another to ask for money. help to remove a wasp nest.
E-Comm says 911 lines should be reserved for reporting crimes in progress or emergencies requiring immediate attention from police, fire or ambulance services.
The department says other unusual calls this year included requests for “technical support” and directions to a Shoppers Drug Mart.
Top 10 calls that were NOT 9-1-1 in 2024:
- Their neighbor wore too much cologne
- The dry cleaners stained their shirts
- McDonald’s would not open its doors
- They wanted to be directed to a Shoppers Drug Mart that was open 24/7.
- Complaining that the power was out
- Request technical assistance
- The box of 38 avocados they bought was rotten
- They left their phone in an Uber
- Ask for help to remove a wasp nest
- There was a domestic-looking rabbit in the park
