The Arcadia Lake Commission has advanced a proposal to start an engineering study on the construction of a waste interception system on the Deep Fork river, near the place where it feeds the lake.

March 13

It was adopted during the group’s March meeting and is now working through other city councils and commissions. If it is adopted, the study would cost nearly $ 70,000.

A few minutes from the March meeting, the state of Oklahoma City is interested in associating with Edmond on the project, due to the concerns concerning the increase in daily charges in the waterways.

April 10

During a meeting on Thursday, the city staff said they expected the municipal council to vote on the article towards the end of April or the beginning of May.

The member of the Rocky MCELVANY commission said that an initial study conducted by UCO gave the group a new reason to examine a more permanent solution.

“We started trying to say: what would it take to do a feasibility study?” Asked MCELVANY. “How could we start to look at the flow? How can we start to look for ways to have an impact on the quantity of articles that circulate in there? And therefore, it is really an exciting period as a commission, it is an exciting period for us to be able to say, we will have the opportunity to be able to do something.”

Currently, MCELVANY said it took more than 300 volunteers

End of 2025

If the municipal council adopts the feasibility study, MCELVANY said that the study should take almost six months.

Timing rides the city’s preparations for the celebration of the centenary route 66 in 2026.

“Arcadia Lake is one of Edmond Route 66’s favorite attractions,” said Jennifer Thornton, who works to visit Edmond. “It is just on route 66. Many visitors and residents and new arrivals appreciate Lake Arcadia. There is even a boat hangar at Lake Arcadia which has a zip line. You can rent kayaks and paddleboards. Thus, the embellishment of Lake Arcadia will not contribute, in particular only with the centenary of Route 66 to come next year. ”
