ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) – The Asheville Police Department said a man was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with a business theft that occurred in a flood-affected area.

Officers were conducting crime prevention activities on Riverside Drive on Thursday, Jan. 2, when an officer found a vehicle parked behind a business in the 500 block around 2:20 p.m.

An investigation revealed the identity of the occupant: Jeremy David Waldrop, 47 years old.

Police say Waldrop was in possession of property that was reported stolen from a nearby business on the morning of January 2.

He was also found to be in possession of illegal narcotics when he was arrested, police said.

He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of Schedule II.

The arrest follows Waldrop’s most recent encounter with law enforcement on December 29, 2024, when he was arrested for first-degree trespassing and tampering with a vehicle in addition to five open arrest warrants for theft and failure to appear for theft.

Waldrop was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Center under a $5,000 unsecured bond issued by a magistrate.

Officers are asking residents with any information regarding illegal activity to contact the police department at 828-252-1110.
