A longtime local skier and a business owner died on Tuesday morning in a skiing accident at the Steamboat Resort, according to the Coroner of Routt County, Mitch Locke.
Peter Van de Carr, 70, from Steamboat Springs, was declared dead on the scene at 10:46 a.m. on Tuesday. According to Locke, the closest parent has been informed.
The cause of death has not yet been released.
According to the routt county sheriff, Doug Scherar, another skier found Van de Carr buried and does not respond in a “group” of snow.
According to Locke, Van de Carr was not well in a tree.
Scherar added that the survey is underway and that the deputies work in close collaboration with Ski Patrol to submit a report.
Van de Carr has popular popular sports of Business Backdoor on Yampa Street.
“Steamboat Resort can confirm the death of a member of the beloved community yesterday at the Jahiany Ridge complex.
