The visit was part of the ongoing Where We Become Mavericks initiative that provides K-12 students with the opportunity for a better life through education.

In early December, Colorado Mesa University welcomed students from Fruita, Grand Junction, Central and Palisade high schools for a special visit to the Davis School of Business as part of the ongoing Where We Become Mavericks initiative. This program aims to inspire local students to explore opportunities for a better life through education and build connections within their community.

Before visiting the Davis School of Business, college and career advisors from CMU and Mesa County Valley School District 51 guided students on tours of several local businesses, including Bonsai Design, the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce and stops downtown like Enstrom’s, Gear Junction and Alpine Bank. These visits gave students a first-hand look at various careers and the impact they could have if they pursued higher education.

At the Davis School of Business, students discovered in-demand programs designed to prepare graduates for success in fields such as finance, computer information systems, hospitality management, entrepreneurship and management. By combining hands-on learning and professional development, the Davis School of Business ensures that students are equipped to transition into meaningful careers immediately after graduation.

By showcasing the various opportunities available within the Davis School of Business, CMU has enabled these high school students to see themselves as future Mavericks, embarking on their academic and professional journeys. This visit highlights CMU’s commitment to raising awareness that higher education is both accessible and affordable for students and families.

The Where We Become Mavericks initiative continues to strengthen ties between the university and local high schools, helping students recognize the vast opportunities that await them in Western Colorado, right here at Colorado Mesa University.
