Most people who have moved to Cornwall have done so for lifestyle reasons rather than working, suggested a study.
The Institute of Cornwall Studies of the University of Exeter said that its New household survey 2024-25 examined the differences between people who lived in houses built in the past 10 years and those of older properties across the county.
He said research, which has received support from the Cornwall Council, showed that 55% of people who moved to the county evaluated employment possibilities as the lowest reason for the move.
He added that 64% of nearly 1,000 respondents said that the quality of the environment was the most important reason for their move, while 41% evaluated the family who has the main reason.
The study said that retirement had been marked as the most important reason for their move to Cornwall.
“Many respondents moved to Cornwall in search of a slower and more peaceful lifestyle far from the bustle of cities,” said the researchers.
“The desire for a quieter and more relaxed rhythm of life was a key engine of resettlement.
“Cornwall was perceived as a place that offers tranquility, a community and a better balance between professional and private life, making it an attractive destination for those looking for a change in lifestyle.”
