It was the perfect place, until it is not.

Due to financial problems, the Halifax club closed its doors – leaving couples that had weddings reserved on the site at the loose ends.

Customers were informed in early February that the club would be closed for three months and that the reimbursements would not be reissued.

Adam Deutsch and his fiancée have $ 5,000 in deposits attached to the Halifax Club and are now rushing to find a new place to hold their marriage in May.

“Even if they open on May 1, we must then plan our whole marriage in 17 days. So that has somehow left us loud and dry, “he said.

“At this point, we have somehow conceded the fact that our marriage will not be at the Halifax Club. But it would be very good to recover our money.

The place, located in the heart of the city center of the city, was founded in 1862 as a “private social club for managers and political leaders”, according to its website.

“(The) club has survived economic upheavals, urban renovation and the Halifax explosion,” continues the site.

Jasko Razic, a seller who worked closely with the Halifax Club, says that many of their customers have been affected. They had 15 weddings already reserved on the site for 2025.

Her business, True North Event Services, now does everything she can to help customers.

“Whether to honor a change of date or honor a change of location, we work closely with them to make sure that they always have this kind of marriage they have considered,” he said.

The Halifax Club was operated by the Caryi group, which is currently in an insolvency after the death of the director of companies, Steve Caryi, in December 2023.

Since then, his family has failed to sell the properties.

His sister, Joanne Caryi, is the current owner. Global News contacted it to comment but had not received a response from the deadline on Wednesday afternoon.
