During a hearing of the bankruptcy court on Monday afternoon, lawyers of the parent company of Crozer Health, Prospect Medical Holdings long -term solution To keep the county of Delaware, Pennsylvania, the operating health system.
The solution “will be a partnership between Delaware County and Penn (Medicine) with the support of the Commonwealth and other parties,” said prospect bankruptcy, Bill Curtin.
“He is now ahead of potential buyers,” said Curtin.
A spokesperson for Penn Medicine, however, disputes this account.
In a statement sent by email to CBS News Philadelphia, a spokesperson said: “Reports suggesting that Penn Medicine is in negotiations to acquire Crozer Health is inaccurate.”
“We are actively working with a range of partners to explore potential solutions to ensure continuity of care for patients in the south of the county of Delaware. A successful plan will require funding commitments and assistance from several stakeholders, including health, state, county and foundations,” said the press release.
The fragile agreement exploded at the end of last week when a foundation for the member of the board of directors of the county of Delaware continued to block more money to make efforts to maintain Crozer Health in operation.
Development caused panic and confusion while nearly 3,000 employees were concerned about the possibility of losing their jobs as well as the many patients who rely on the health system.
Friday, an agreement was concluded that the Foundation would continue to participate financially and provide the necessary funding for Crozer.
The Foundation announced that it provided additional $ 13 million, with $ 7 million arriving this week and the balance of $ 6 million on April 1.
Frances Sheehan, executive director of the Foundation, testified that in internal, the members of the foundation’s board of directors fought by concerns concerning the maintenance of other charities in the county of Delaware, but we have declared: “We also know that we need our hospitals and we recognize our responsibility for providing a resistance buoy for these hospitals.”
“We know what is the value of this hospital for this community,” said Peggy Malone, president of the Crozer-Chester Medical Center Nurses Union. “I always believed that we are going to arrive on the finish line and this hospital will stay open, we just have to keep everyone to believe, and once again, it’s a very good day.”
In a statement, Pennsylvania’s state senator Tim Kearney said that the hearing on Monday “had brought a sign of hope that was necessary for the future of Crozer’s health”.
Meanwhile, the judge said he seemed that this development had left him on the verge of signing a sigh of relief.
Crozer Health operates Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park and other health care establishments in the region.
Another hearing is set for Wednesday.
