
Dr Michael Kupferman
Dieuducter, clinician and researcher accomplished to lead a health system of $ 4.2 billion from the university; Collaborate with the College of Medicine to advance training, research and care missions
Michael E. KUPFERMAN, MD, MBA was appointed by the president of Penn State Neeli Bendapudi and the board of directors of Penn State Health to be the next managing director of Penn State Health (CEO). Kupferman is an experienced health manager and medical director with more than a decade of experience in conducting transformational change through integrated health systems, university medical centers and community health companies.

Kupferman joins Penn State Health after having been president of the Banner University Medicine Division and vice-president of the doctors’ company for Banner Health, based in Phoenix, one of the largest health systems in the United States, its responsibilities at Banner, included academic medicine, the system and the strategy of the service line, the operations of hospital and medical groups, the performance of health networks. He was also a member of the board of directors of the CVS-Aetna joint venture with banner and member of the board of directors of the Medicare Insurance Plan in exclusive property and health health councils.

Kupferman was previously Vice-President Director of Director of Development of Clinical and Academic Networks at the Texas University Cancer Center MD Anderson in Houston, where he served from 2006 to 2022. He led the development, management and growth of clinical oncology and research programs through MD Anderson Cancer Network, including all national and international relations. In this role, he directed the development of oncology partnerships with some of the largest health systems in the United States. He was also responsible for global population initiatives of the population and public policies platforms with international government agencies and non -governmental organizations. During his stay at MD ANDERSON, he was a professor in the head and neck surgery.
Kupferman is a surgeon and researcher formed by head and neck cancer who finished his clinical and research scholarships at MD ANDERSON. He obtained his baccalaureate in political science and biology from the University of Yeshiva and obtained his medicine diploma from the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He finished his internship in surgery and his internship in surgery and his residence in neck surgery and neck surgery at the University of Pennsylvania hospital. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration of the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management. It is certified at the pension in Oto-Rhino-Laryngology and neck surgery.
Kupferman has already been funded by the National Institutes of Health, and his research interests include metastase mechanisms in head and neck cancer, tumor biology of the salivary glands, affordability and access to patient care and emerging robotic technologies for cancer treatment.
In its role as CEO of the 4.2 billion dollars health system of Penn State, Kupferman will also work in close collaboration with Dan Karen Kim of Penn State College of Medicine and other managers of the College of Medicine and University to promote increased collaboration in clinical and university companies.

Hershey Medical Center and Dorothy Foehr Huck and J. Lloyd Huck Professor and President of Rural Health. “Its richness of experience in integrated university health systems will be a great asset to help our health system provide our common vision to improve health, advance discovery and prepare for the future health care.”
Kupferman was selected following a national search led by a committee of 12 members, chaired by the member of the Penn State health council and director of the Siemens health market, Steve Wagman, with the help of the research firm Russell Reynolds. The committee included Kim, representatives of the Board of Directors of Penn State Health, presidents of the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center department and the College of Medicine, as well as senior executives of Penn State Health.

Penn State Health will be well placed to meet the evolutionary needs of our community health care under its competent leadership. ”
In addition to his administrative tasks as CEO, Kupferman intends to continue to take care of patients with head and neck cancer, as well as medical students, residents and scholarship holders. He will make a teaching center of the medical college as a head teacher from Oto-Rhino-Laryngology and neck surgery.
KUPFERMAN will take on his duties as CEO of Penn State Health as of Monday, June 23.
