Columbia, MO – Associate coach Associate of the University of Missouri Maple Kendric was selected in the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame class in 2025. Kansas Sports Hall of Fame strives to honor all athletes who have contributed to the history of sport in Kansas and inspire the public through their value of athletics.
“I am honored to be selected for the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame,” said Maple. “This could not be possible without the countless people who have supervised and spilled in me, not only as a wrestler but also as a person. Consequently, I would like to accept this price on their behalf and thank all the coaches, teachers and family who helped me succeed.
The enthronement ceremony will take place on August 2, 2025 in Topeka, Kansas, in honor of the ten members of the 2025 renown temple class. Maple is the only representative of the sports sports sports, and its enthronement follows its entry into Kansas Wrestling Hall of Fame in October 2022.
“This is an accomplished group, and one of Kansas Sports Hall of Fame is extremely proud to recognize on behalf of the whole State,” said Jim Dunning, Jr., president of Kansas Sports Hall of Fame. “Individuals represent the best of the state of Kansas and come from various horizons. Their stories inspire all Kansans.”
Career protruding facts
Originally from Wichita, Kansas, Maple won two state titles for the Wichita Heights High School. He won his first junior in 2008 at 130 pounds, with his second to come the following season at 135 pounds. He was also a four-year letter for the Falcons, winning the co-trainer of the year with the honors and being a gross national champion in high school.
During a historic collegial career at the University of Oklahoma, Maple obtained American status three times, placing the fourth, the first and the eighth of his last three seasons, respectively, on the way to a record of 127-25. During the 2012-13 season, he obtained the national title of 141 pounds for the Sooners, capping an undefeated season. He is one of the ten kansas wrestlers to win an NCAA championship, his 2013 crown being the most recent until Newton-Native Wyatt Hendrickson won the title of 285 pounds in 2025.
Maple also had its fair share of post-college success, being a double champion of the US Open in Freestyle, winning honors at home in 2017 and 2022, and representative of Wrestling Club for the latter. During six full seasons of Columbia coaches staff, Maple supervised 15 All-American and two individual national championships in the area.
