The US President Donald Trump’s in progress with Canada seems to have claimed another victim.
A small town on the firm border after 24 years.
Point -to -point package, located in Roberts pointWash., Served customers on both sides of the border, but co -owner Beth Calder says they can no longer support the company.
“It was really sad that with the government changes that were launched by the American team, then retaliated by the Canadian side with regard to border prices and cross -border transactions. Cknw.
She said affairs have dropped by 75%, and although February and March are generally slower, they do not see the business recovering.
“We are mainly 99% supported by Canadians using our business,” said Calder.

“And as a born Canadian citizen, I did not prefer the way (Trump) was talking about Canadians. So I felt what all my customers felt. And there was only, there was no need.”

Calder said that the COVVI-19 pandemic was quite difficult for their business and its Roberts point, but that the current political climate is too difficult to sail.
“The difference between Covid, you could not meet, and we stayed quite busy with the mail (and) sorting people’s stuff,” she said.
“While with this, people are still freely allowed to cross the border. They simply choose not to do it.”
Calder said that during the first 10 days of March, they already saw approximately 1,000 less delivered packages compared to the same period last March.
Point Roberts is a community of Washington’s state but geographically is Canada.
The community of around 1,100 people is located just south of Tsawwassen, however, it relies on British Columbia for a large part of its trade.
Calder said that the point to point package would close in April.
“This is even a more scary success because it is not what we do, it is what the government decides to do,” she said.
“And I would like to see the doors closed with a certain dignity and thanks. But at the same time, I must make sure that all my customers are aware of the closure. I do not want to see anyone upset that they had done nothing for months, and then suddenly they think that everything is also normal and that is not the case.”
