Julia Garner Don’t know how to surf.
One might think that this would be a prerequisite to become the new Marvel silver surfer, but The Fantastic Four: First steps Star tells Weekly entertainment That she had never needed to learn before making sure that all the brilliant play the first live Balla-Bal.

Some people will only look at certain things, that is why I want to diversify in all genres, and this is one of the reasons why I wanted to do Witter – it reaches another type of public. “”

Entertainment Weekly: were you a fan of Fantastic Four or The Silver Surfer before joining this film, or did you have to dive deep into the comics after being cast?
Julia Garner: I knew the basics of certain comics characters, (and that) there was the Marvel world and the world DC, and they are very different. I knew some of the famous comics characters, some of which I did not know. So when I was presented this opportunity, I said to myself: “Wait, what?” Me? ” Yeah, I was incredulous, almost because it was so cool. I knew who was the Silver Surfer, and I learned the Silver Surfer more when I signed the project. I really plunged. I read a lot of fantastic oven and Silver surfer comics before starting the project, and I knew that this Fantastic Four was going to be told in a very different way from that of other films.
Was there a specific comic strip arc that you pulled for your performance?
Well, there were some things that were very important to know before signing – I did not know that there were Ballas, for example, another form of a silver surfer that does not look like what you think of the silver surfer. The best parts of the comics I noticed, for me, and it’s the same thing when you watch the films, it’s when it surfaces in space. Aesthetically, he looks incredible, and I am really excited to see what (director) Matt (Shakman) and Marvel will do with that.
Did you already know how to surf? Or did you have to learn to become the silver surfer?
(Laughter) No, I’m really afraid of the ocean. So no, but I can act. I have friends who know how to surf, and they showed me movements before going out in London to obtain the body position of all this. And then I did shortly after being in London that I used surf movements, but I also used a lot of what I saw in the comics. There were different poses according to which, the way they draw them, they were not surfing – they almost looked like something you would see in the sculptures. So I incorporated surfing with the poses of a sculpture, like moving elegantly, like a dance. It was therefore a kind of mixture of things, but many came from the comics that inspired me.

Tell me about your casting process-Did you know that you were going for this role specifically or was it a very secret of you for a while?
No, I met Matt, who is charming. We met in a restaurant in Burbank or something like that, I don’t even remember, but I knew it was for the Fantastic Four. And then I was confused because I said to myself: “Wait, isn’t the money surfer a man?” I said to myself: “Okay, well, I will play anything.” (Laughter) I was a very big fan of Matt, so there was already, in my mind, like: “I should probably meet Matt Shakman because he is a very intelligent director and I like his work.” And then he explained to me that it is actually shalla-billa and all that.
He didn’t tell me a lot about the film, but we talked a lot about the 1960s. Our meeting went everywhere, and I thought I was not really getting the play because Reunion was everywhere. I said to myself: “I don’t know how he will get involved for this work.” I mean, we were talking about communism, brutalist architecture, of all this. And then they said to themselves: “You have it.” I said to myself: “Wait, what?” So I think we have vibrated, but you never know, fundamentally, what I say.
How did Matt describe this version of the Silver Surfer at the start? And when you got the script, how was it written on the page?
It will be really interesting – I must be so cryptic about everything, otherwise I will have Marvel coming after me. But it was described as there is this mystery about it, and there is this feeling of this ambiguous energy that happens if it is good or not. She is the herald of Galactus, so she works for Galactus, but you do not know where she is. Does she stand with her boss, or does she just do what she said? She has this mysterious energy about her, and slowly this mystery will be resolved with the public throughout to look at him.
It is obviously the first live balla-balla that we obtain, which is exciting in itself. But how do you want to make this version of the silver surfer different from what we have seen before, especially in the 2007 film, played by Doug Jones and expressed by Laurence Fishburne?
What makes this version different is that the film is just different. First of all, I am a woman, so it’s already different, and it has not been said before. This silver surfer feels more mysterious in a way, even how he was written, than the others. In addition, just the world feels so different with retro futurism from the 1960s in progress. The public will get a completely different experience with this film, so it will have a clean palette.
What did your training process look like before the start of filming?
I hope that it is as cinematographic as in the mind of everyone, thinking that it is a Rocky training. I would like to be able to say that. I just did my basic exercise, pilates and yoga. I did a lot of yoga just because I knew I was going to make posts all day. But it was weird – I was in motion, but I mean, I did not eat donuts and hamburgers every day and not to move. But that was not what you would like (you wait). I would like to have a better story for that, but before Fantastic FourThree weeks before that, I did it Weapons for two months, then before WeaponsI was doing Wolf Man. I went directly to Wolf has WeaponsThen shortly after, Fantastic, It was therefore not as if I had a crazy and crazy time (to train).
And at least it meant that you did not have to go up in the ocean to learn to surf.
(Laughter) Yes, exactly. But it’s funny, it’s so different. It looks almost like Silver Surfer was like a sculpture in a way.
Was it the first time you have used movement capture technology for a role? How was it?
Yes, it was the first time that I did this technology, and it was crazy. It was such a surreal experience. It was wild. Normally, the last looks would be hair and makeup, then all of a sudden, it was just wires.
What was your reaction when you considered yourself the money surfer for the first time?
I was not super surprised because Matt showed me a model. I just thought it was so cool. It looked strangely to … Well, I don’t want to say fashion, but you might completely see it, I felt like a track, which I always notice the best. The costume must be aesthetically pleasant to the eye, especially with Marvel. People like it. In the end, it’s a comic strip. I am delighted to see it – I really saw nothing other than the trailer and model scenes, so it will be interesting.

Shalla-Bal has a rich story in comics. Are we going to get an original story for her and how she became Herald de Galactus in this film, or her romantic link with the other silver surfer?
All I can say is that she works for Galactus and that she is mysterious, and the character will take place more towards the end of the film. That’s all I can say. I know it is a very wonderful teasing, but also it is like a real teasing. I haven’t seen the film myself!
With what actors did you work most during filming?
In fact, I worked with the four, but I did a lot of days with Joe. Joseph Quinn is so charming, and I think he is absolutely brilliant in there.
Since Shalla-Bal fought all kinds of bad names of big names who are about to make his debut on the screen or who have been tatthed for a while, including Doom and Mephisto, should we assume that this is only the beginning of your time in the MCU?
Oh my God, I would like to be able to answer this question, but I have no answer, honestly. I was just happy to be part of this film. But we will see.
It is long spoken of a spin-off film of silver surfer. Is this something you want to do?
A hundred percent, I would like to do that. The Silver Surfer is such a cool character, and I have the impression that it is so rare to present yourself with all kinds of mystery these days. So any kind of energy like this on the screen, I know I want to see this, so it would be great if it happened.
