WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Popular local sub store chain JRECK Subs is now sporting an orange theme.
You may have spotted the new branding in town, as the North Country’s newest store, recently located on Arsenal Street, is ditching the old green theme.
“You’re always going to come see the same people. We prepare the same food. Just, we have a different logo and a little different look,” said Sally Rice, JRECK Subs franchisee.
This is a decision by the chain’s new owner, Fresh Start, which took over the name JRECK Subs in 2019.
“I think the Fresh Start company is trying to live up to its name by giving all of us a little fresh start in the business,” Rice said.
Among the list of new changes was the logo. The admiral is no more. In its place is a new logo that recalls the company’s beginnings.
In a video that JRECK Subs is using to promote its new look, the subchain’s last surviving founder, Charlie Lehman, explains how this new bus-like logo represents the company’s humble beginnings.
“We were all teachers at Carthage Central. We decided to buy a school bus and turned it into a takeaway sub shop. We opened the bus in 1965 near the main entrance to Camp Drum and sold subs to soldiers there during the summer. It was great,” Lehman said.
Lehman hopes the new look will take the company into a new chapter where future generations will get a taste of JRECK.
“I’m glad there’s new blood because I’d like it to last another 40 years,” Lehman said,
JRECK Subs has nearly 2 dozen locations stretching from Syracuse to Saranac Lake and Malone.
