Jeff Sperbeck, the longtime friend, trading partner and former agent of John Elway, died on Wednesday injuries suffered when he fell from a golf cart that would have been motivated by the quarter of the fame. Sperbeck was 62 years old.
The Coroner of the County of Riverside (California) confirmed the death of Sperbeck in a press release from the Sheriff’s Office. Sperbeck was injured on Saturday evening at the Quinta, California, and was declared dead early Wednesday in a hospital in Palm Springs.
“I am absolutely devastated and my heart broken by the death of my close friend, trading partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck,” Elway said in a statement on Wednesday. “There are no words to really express the deep sadness that I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has mean so much for me.
“My heart and my deepest sympathies go to Jeff’s wife, Cori; her children Carly, Sam and Jackson; and all those who knew and loved him. Jeff will miss it deeply for loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love he has brought to my life and the life of so many others.”
According to TMZElway led the golf cart when Sperbeck fell and hit his head on the asphalt. Sperbeck was sitting in the passenger seat, a source told ESPN. TMZ also reported that he had supported life after the fall.
The Riverside County Sheriff Office Investigation of the incident, although Sheriff Chad Bianco said to the Denver Post On Friday, there was “nothing we found” and described the situation as “horrible accident”.
“We are deeply saddened to share the death of our beloved Jeff Sperbeck. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, son and friend of many and we will miss deeply,” said the Sperbeck family in a statement. “We mourn this unimaginable family loss alongside our dearest Elway friends and the many other customers called friends. We are grateful for the screen overwhelming support that we have received and ask for confidentiality for our family during this difficult period.”
Elway won two super bowls during a 16 -year -old NFL career, all with the Denver Broncos. He was then Director General and Vice-President General of the Broncos, then went to a consultant’s role until his contract expired in March 2023.
Sperbeck began to manage Elway in 1990. He represented more than 100 NFL players during a career of three decades as an agent and sales advisor.
Sperbeck helped manage the vast business empire outside the Elway, which included restaurants, car dealerships and a cellar; The two collaborated with the winemaker Rob Mondavi Jr. in 2015 for Co-Fonder 7celars by John Elway.
Sperbeck also co -founded Sullivan & Sperbeck, a sports marketing company acquired by Octagon in 2001. Sperbeck led the Octagon football division from 2001 to 2009, when he started the Novo agency, a sports management company where it was CEO and represented dozens of current players and trail and retirees from NFL. The agency merged with REP1 Sports in 2018.
“It was a terrible period for all those involved and our hearts continue to go to the Sperbeck family,” Elway lawyer Harvey Steinberg said on Friday. “While John is raising this unimaginable loss, we appreciate the efforts of the Sheriff department of the County Riverside. The investigation confirmed what we already knew: it was a tragic accident and sometimes things happen in the life that we will never understand.”
