Jennifer Lopez found with her Maid in Manhattan costar Ralph Fiennes at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in California on Saturday, where the Conclave the actor presented the Unstoppable actress with the Legend & Groundbreaker Award.
In a gentle and moving way speechFiennes compared Lopez to her character in director Wayne Wang’s 2002 romantic comedy. “This handmaiden actually had extraordinary wings that unfolded and flew away,” he said. “But in this life, in this story, I think she’s already been flying with purpose from a very young age. Fiennes, who plays a Republican politician who falls in love with Lopez’s character in the film, praised the actress for her talent and soul. “As she flies high, she honors and realizes her extraordinary creative spirit and shares it, shining a light on the lives of so many, inspiring them and brightening their days,” he said. “She has incredible talents. She’s an incredible dancer and singer. She’s a beautiful actress.”

The two actors kissed on stage, and Lopez thanked Fiennes for his kind words. “It was incredibly beautiful,” she said. “Ralph, it’s been so long. It’s so great to see you. Oh, my God, thank you so much for doing this. You know how much I admire you and your work, and it’s been such a privilege to being able to work with so many years ago and it’s amazing to be here today, thank you very much.
When asked about a potential Maid in Manhattan continuation or resumption on the red carpet of the event, Lopez answered“I don’t know anything about a sequel. I know we’ve talked about producing a show, a series of Maid in Manhattanbut I don’t know if we would be there.” ABC announced that the film would be adapted into a TV series in 2008, but it never came to fruition.
Released in 2002, Maid in Manhattan earned $154 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of $55 million. Although it received mixed reviews at the time, the film is now one of the most beloved projects in Lopez’s filmography.
