Duran, 28, opened its doors as part of Netflix’s documentation, “The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox”, which will be presented on Tuesday. In the fourth episode of the series, entitled “Still Alive”, Duran explains that he tried to shoot himself with a rifle, but the weapon did not shoot.

During the 2021 and 2022 seasons, when Duran was a 25 -year recruit, he struck one .218 combined with a .612 OPS and five circuits during the first 91 games of his MLB career. It was not the expected production of a central starting defender, and the pressure that Duran felt not to respond to these requests has become increasingly difficult for him.

“I think every day:” I can’t do this “,” he said, ” via the Boston globe. “I couldn’t take care of telling myself how much I sucked f *** ing. As, I already heard fans and, as, what they tell me. It was like, I said to myself 10 times worse than that in the mirror. It was, like, a really difficult period for me.

“It was a long time for me. I didn’t even want to be here anymore.”

Director Greg Whiteley then asked Duran: “When you say” here “, you mean” here “with the Red Sox or” here “on planet Earth?

“Probably both. Yeah. Probably both,” said Duran. “I got to a point where I was sitting in my room, I had my rifle, and I had a ball, and I pressed the relaxation, and the gun clicked, but nothing happened.

“So, to this day, I think that God did not let me commit suicide because I do not know why it did not go. I took the sign of:” I may have to be here for a reason “, it was then that I started to look in the mirror after the weapon has not disappeared.”

Duran first recognized his difficulties in 2022, which included a demotion to minor leagues, while speaking with Masslive Reporter Chris Cotillo.

“It was quite difficult,” said Duran in Cotillo in August 2022. “I can’t talk too much about it, but I was pretty low this year. It was difficult to stay here (in major leagues). I don’t really talk to my family about my low points because I am so closed to everyone.”

After starting the 2023 season in Triple A, Duran regularly improved in his first MLB season complete in 2023. He had a campaign in small groups last year, hitting .285 with an OPS of 0.834, 21 circuits, 75 products produced and 34 stolen bases. Duran was appointed to the All-Star team of the American League, and it hit a two -point circuit And was appointed MVP of the All-Star game. He led MLB with 48 doubles and 14 triples and finished eighth in the vote of the MVP of Al.

The president and chief executive officer of the Red Sox, Sam Kennedy, congratulated Duran for having shared his difficulties with mental health publicly.

“Jarren’s decision to share his story is an act of courage that reaches far beyond baseball,” said Kennedy in a declaration. “By opening, he shows others who may have trouble not being alone and that asking for help is not just ok, it’s essential.

“Each member of this organization continues to stand with him. He has our deepest admiration, he has always had our total support, and we are incredibly lucky to have it in the context of our team.”

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred echoes these feelings to Peter Abraham from Boston GlobeCongratulating Duran for raising awareness among mental health among other players and baseball fans.
