John’s death on Days of our lives – And the death of his beloved representative, Drake Hogestyn – are very, very sad. But the funeral and the awakening of John were Oh, so much, very good. And one of the best parts was that they did not skimp on flashbacks.
We have not only seen the greatest moments of John and Marlena, but we also reserved scenes from their compatriots super-couples of the 1980s, including Steve and Kayla, Kim and Shane, and Jack and Jennifer. And the biggest thrill – after the hair and fashion of the Reagan era, of course – was the recall that the soap operas had an exterior!
Let the sun shine
When John and Bo (Peter Reckell) fought on a cliff, it was a real cliff! When Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) and Jack (Matthew Ashford) went into the water, it was real water. And Bo and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) sailed on a real boat!
The soaps did not go out all the time, but they did so often to make it feel both special and realistic. We knew that something big was about to go down when we saw the blue sky instead of a missing ceiling and green grass instead of nothing between the knees. And we will not risk missing a day of excitement.

Pale imitation
In recent years before its cancellation, Guiding light I tried to do exclusively shots on site. The goal was to make it more like a reality show. But they did not choose an exotic place like the beaches of Florida or the old architecture of Greece. They went to New Jersey instead.
The actors and the technical team gave the best blow, and we always support the soaps by trying something new. But that didn’t work. Not the way the days of return during the day have done. A chance that we can see something like them again?
