The pioneering spirit of the late Victor Rattner continues to inspire students at Augusta University. School of Computer Science and Cybersciences thanks to a scholarship fund created in his memory.
After a diving accident left him quadriplegic, Rattner began studying computer science at then-Augusta College. Despite his struggles, Rattner maintained a positive attitude, refusing to let his disability define him.
This pioneering spirit is one that SCCS continues to instill in students as they navigate their own journey and overcome challenges.
Today, the alumnus’ legacy lives on through a $2.4 million endowment, established by Rattner and his mother Lillian, which supports students pursuing degrees in computer sciencewith a particular emphasis on individuals with disabilities or financial need who exemplify outstanding academic achievement.
This year, the Lillian P. and Victor Rattner Scholarship ceremony, organized at Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Centerhonored 13 students. The scholarship covers expenses such as tuition, course materials, room and board, allowing recipients to fully concentrate on their academic goals without the financial burden.
“Every year it is inspiring to celebrate the students who receive this award,” said Alexander SchwarzmannPhD, dean of the School of Computer and Cybersciences. “Victor’s memory lives on as these students honor his legacy, building paths that lead to their own success.” »
Parents like Angie Rutland expressed particular pride in their children’s achievements.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to receive this support,” said Rutland, mother of recipient Kyle Rutland. “I couldn’t be prouder of his continued commitment, and we are truly grateful to the School of Computer and Cyberscience for supporting its students in every way possible.”
The scholarship is open to all SCCS students who meet the criteria, regardless of background, passing on Rattner’s legacy of resilience and opportunity for future generations.
