A child is in hospital with fatal injuries after a stab On Sunday, in downtown Halifax, police announced, and a suspect is in detention.

A declaration by the regional police of Halifax said that the police responded to the 1900 block of Barrington Street around 1:20 p.m., where a six -year -old was found with multiple stabs.

The police said that the alleged attacker, a 19 -year -old woman, had been found on the scene and arrested for serious assault.

“The victim and the suspect are not known to each other,” the police statement said.

The investigation is underway and the police ask anyone who may have a video of the area at the time of the incident to contact them.

Claudia Chender, the chief of the NDP and the official opposition, said that she sent love and prayers to the child and hoping for a complete recovery of “this insane act”.

“While we are waiting for details and justice, my heart is with family, friends and community of this child,” said Chender.
