THE Green Wellness Program: Plants-2-Plate has openings for an intensive six-month program that promotes lifestyle change, including a predominantly plant-based diet to achieve optimal health.
The program will begin on Wednesday, February 5 with a registration deadline of January 31. Program sessions will take place on Wednesdays from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. at School of Nursing Building on the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long campus at 7703 Floyd Curl Drive.
The program includes a plant-based diet and other lifestyle modifications and may benefit people with chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, fatty liver disease or obesity. University and community members are invited to register.
Program participants are challenged to follow a whole-food, plant-based nutrition plan and will learn how to adopt a healthy lifestyle and eating habits centered around foods primarily from plants, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains and legumes.
The program encourages a strong support system through in-person group medical visits that allow participants to build accountability, exchange recipes, and learn from each other. Previous participants have reduced or eliminated the need for medications, reduced their weight and improved their overall health.
In addition to nutrition planning, participants also receive training on ways to reduce stress through meditation, good sleep and journaling. Program team members include a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, and registered dietitian, all experts in plant-based nutrition and wellness.
Join a friend or family member to provide additional support. Over the course of the program, there will be 20 medical visits, including three individual provider visits, 15 group visits, and two visits to a registered dietitian. Participants who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion and a program gift.
Two other sessions will begin in April.
