Hudson’s Bay goes to his last weekend of liquidation sales with his flagship product in Toronto teeming with buyers in search of a last treasure of the department store.
Even before the opening of the location of Yonge Street on Friday, buyers waited in front of its doors, exchanging hopes for what they would find inside and develop strategies to beat the competition.
When they succeeded, they found that large expanses of the store had been emptied, but many offers remained.
There were $ 10 of Jean Levi for men, $ 5 of corsets for women and $ 15 pajamas.
There was also an apparently endless range of furniture and lighting for sale, including plastic fruits, decorative books, woven baskets, holiday boxes and a row of models.
Travette Banfield picked up a bag of inserts at a reduced price that will hold the boots that always fall in his closet and others to stretch her children’s shoes, but his best find was a model of $ 50 who came in her complexion and had wooden arms and adjustable fingers.
She wanted to use it to model outfits for social media videos she does, but had trouble balancing the model in her shopping cart.
“We return home on the TTC like this,” she said, laughing in the middle of the shoe department.
While she joked that she “did not try to be a hobby”, she said that she had gone to the store earlier in the week, after a friend urged her to go see what Hudson’s bay had left, when they were released for dinner.

“I was in high heels dragged this pot through the store,” she said, laughing again.
She was not the only one to make repeated visits to the department store known as the oldest company in Canada when she is preparing to close all her locations on Sunday.
On Friday, many buyers of the flagship said they had visited several of the 80 stores that the bay had operated or some of the 13 under its saks banners in recent days.
They said they had made several trips because they wanted to find savings, but also considered that it was important to testify to the collapse of the 355 -year -old company, which filed for the protection of creditors in March.
“I had a security guard who made fun of me because I took photos all the time that I am here in empty areas which are normally filled and which have been filled all my life,” said Alysha Robinson, who bought white and gold decorative pumpkins and Easter eggs that she will use for screens in her cannabis store.
“It’s just strange to see him so sorry.”
Two floors, Ares Hadjis accepted. The dug bay brought a feeling of already seen because it worked for the Rival Sears Canada department store before closing its doors in 2018.
“I prefer that this place was animated and always good, but I suppose it simply reflects the changing landscape,” he said in search of grocery bodies to add to the false display steaks and the cheese he bought at the bay last week.
“Even I have obtained more online in recent years, so I guess I have also contributed to that.”
In court documents, Hudson’s bay blamed her disappearance on trafficking in center stores, a difficult recovery from the coco-19 pandemic and the more recent trade war.
The trio of challenges made it difficult to pay the assembly invoices and finally led to layoffs, mechanical stairs and stores that were to close for days because their air conditioning systems were in ruins.
“I could see him coming, but I still hoped that things would turn around because it is an emblematic store,” said Ceciel Wells, who worked on the site of rue Bloor in Toronto for 37 years before its closure in 2022.
“I could really see the writing on the wall, but it’s a sad day.”
On Friday, when she visited the Lighthouse of Yonge Street, she was “shocked” to see how “everything is almost gone”.
In previous weeks, she had found the Square One store in Mississauga, Ontario, teeming with good deals, including very arranged carpets that she, her daughter and her friend bought and a Calvin Klein dress of $ 149 that she found for $ 18.
Her shopping trip on Friday presented much less goods to choose from, but she still managed to catch clothes marked for a loved one.
For Wells, good deals was a bonus. The real point of the trip was to see the store and its former colleagues, who gathered informally among media and dresses supports one last time.
“It was a wonderful and wonderful place to work,” she said, “so I came here to say goodbye.”
