Governor Kathy Hochul said on Thursday that his ramp program, a workforce development initiative to add development centers in the North of New York, will include the former campus of the Saint-Rose college.
Hochul, in Albany on Thursday, said that Saint Rose would be one of the many locations for the new centers, joining – among others – in Mohawk Valley and the County Colleges of the County of Monroe.
“This is developed with industry leaders. We cannot do this in a vacuum, “said Hochul. “We have to ask the industry leaders:” What do you need? ” … You are those who lead innovation. ‘”
The ramp program, which means a network for regional advanced manufacturing partnerships, was launched in September as an investment of $ 200 million managed by Empire State Development. Hochul proposed in its state budgetary plan last month that four workforce training centers along the Thruway corridor would be added – connecting Albany, Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo.
The plan requires the approval of the state legislature.
Saint Rose closed in June 2024. The Pine Hills Land Authority, led by the county of Albany, won the property during an auction at the end of last year.
The director of the county of Albany, Dan McCoy, said Thursday that the use of the Saint Rose campus for a workplace development center would reinvent what the campus can be to local and regional residents.
“They tried everything to make it work. Now is our turn to make it work, “said McCoy about the college board of directors. “We will understand this and it will be unique. It’s going to be mixed here. »»
