THE Seventy-eight global health assembly (WHA78) takes place on May 19 to 27, 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland.

During the plenary session on Monday, May 19, the Director General will award Botswana for having reached the status of gold level on the path of elimination of the transmission of the mother to the child from HIV as a public health problem.
Botswana has already been the first country in the world to meet the criteria of level of money on the path of HIV elimination, in 2021. Now, Botswana is the first country to obtain the status of gold level, by reaching strict targets for the prevalence of HIV among new mothers, the incidence of HIV among newborns and the coverage of services for antennous care and Antiretrovière therapy.

The discussion will focus on the consequences of financing reductions, the strategies to ensure the continuity of HIV services and the importance of mobilizing domestic resources to achieve the objective of ending aid by 2030. |

The WHA offers a critical opportunity to raise awareness and stimulate commitment to eliminate hepatitis and reduce liver cancer on a global scale. This platform can also provide a basis for launching a coalition of Member States dedicated to the increase in the visibility of hepatitis and the acceleration of global efforts to eliminate it. |

This parallel event will explore how autonomous interventions transform the landscape of health and sexual health and reproductive health (SRHR), supporting primary health care (PHC) and universal health coverage (UHC). Autosoin interventions based on evidence for SRHR are recommended by WHO for all economic contexts. Autosoin interventions offer practical and stimulating solutions to overcome persistent obstacles to advance the quality SRHR for all. This secondary event will highlight the multidimensional advantages of autoos interventions through concrete examples, including national and innovation impact. |
