She was one of the 198 scholars and artists in 53 areas that will be recognized this year from a 3,500 candidates, according to John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.
In addition to his research and teaching, Helmke is the director of the faculty of the Democracy at the University of Rochester. Helmke’s appointment brings the total number of Guggenheim Fellows from the University of Rochester at 23.
By announcing the prices, Edward Hirsch, the award -winning poet and president of the Foundation, praised the scholarship holders for their contributions to the company.
