Global News and former deputy Han Dong have set up their trial.
Dong, the former deputy of Don Valley North, moved away from the Liberal Caucus on March 22, 2023, after Global News, citing confidential security sources, published alleged details on his interactions with the Chinese consulate in Toronto.
Dong then continued Global’s parent company, Corus Entertainment, and repeatedly denied any reprehensible act.
Global News published the following declaration following the regulation of the trial:

“Global News and former deputy Han Dong settled Mr. Dong’s trial concerning the world news that reported the allegations on Mr. Dong.
Global News acknowledges the conclusions of the final report of the public inquiry into foreign interference, in particular that the classified information examined by judge Marie Josee Hogue corroborate that Mr. Dong has not suggested that the RPC extends the detention of Michael Kovrig and Micheal Spolar.
The stories published by Global were based on information provided by confidential intelligence sources.
Mr. Dong has always denied the accuracy of this intelligence. In relation to the allegations of sources concerning Mr. Dong, Global News’ intention was to report on important public interest issues and to qualify unsecured allegations and subject to different interpretations. “”
Dong decided not to stand in the April 28 elections. Maggie Chi, representing the Liberal Party of Canada, was elected to Don Valley North.
