Gaspare Luduca named VP for information systems and technology and IOC | News put

Gaspare Luduca was appointed MIT vice-president for information systems and technology (IS&T) and the information director, from August 18. Currently, vice-president of information and IOC technologies of the University of Columbia, Loduca has held computer management positions in or linked to higher education for more than two decades. He succeeds Mark Silis, who directed IS & T from 2019 to 2024, when he left MIT to return to the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the San Francisco Bay region.

The executive vice-president and treasurer Glen Shor announced today the appointment in an email to the Faculty and the MIT staff.

“I believe that Gaspare will be an incredible asset for MIT, bringing a large experience of supporting teachers, researchers, staff and students and a highly collaborative style,” explains Shor. “It is impatient to start his work with our talented team IS & T to trace and implement their contributions to the future of information technologies at MIT.”

Luduca will direct the IS & T organization and supervise the infrastructure and services of MIT information technology that support its research and academic companies between student and administrative systems, network operations, cloud services, cybersecurity and customer support. As co -president of the information technology governance committee, he will guide the development of IT policy and strategy at the Institute. He will also play a key role in the efforts of the MIT to modernize his business processes and his administrative systems, working In close collaboration with the Business and Digital Transformation Office.

“Gaspare brings to its new role an in -depth experience in complex IT organization,” said Provost Cynthia Barnhart, who was one of the Shor’s advisers during the research process. “His depth of experience, associated with his vision of the future state of information technologies and digital transformation at the MIT, is convincing, and I am delighted to see the positive impact he will have here.”

“While I start my new role, I plan to find out more about the culture and community of MIT to make sure that all the decisions or changes that we bring are shaped by the needs of the community and made in a way that corresponds to culture. I also look forward to knowing more about the research and work carried out by students and teachers to advance the MIT mission. It’s inspiring, and I’m in mind to support their success, ”explains Locuca.

In his role at Columbia, Loduca supervised the IT department, directed computer governance committees for school computer functions and at the level of the department and has ensured the secure operation of the university’s business class systems since 2015. His projects included the supervision of the implementation of finance systems, human resources and students’ administration for customers such as Columbia University, Miami University, Carnegie Mellon University, the University System of Georgia and the University of Yale.

“In a research institution, there is a wide range of activities that occur every day, and our work is to support them all while managing the risk of cybersecurity. We must be creative and reflected in our solutions, and consider the needs and expectations of our community, ”he says.

Luduca holds a baccalaureate in chemical genius from Michigan State University. He and his wife are recent empty nest workers and are moving to Boston.
