San Antonio – San Antonio’s elderly people learn to use technology for daily tasks in the city’s free classes.

The courses offered in senior centers, libraries and other public spaces are free for the elderly. The subjects vary and cover cybersecurity, how to download applications and how to search and check the information.

Darryl Greer, the program coordinator for AARP’s elderly technology services, says their mission is to help adults learn to use technology.

“We must make sure that the elderly are also informed and are trained on how to use us, whether to help their health results, their financial security or simply connect to dear beings. I mean, it’s extremely important, ”said Greer.

Remedios Holder took a few technology lessons at the Doris Griffin Senior One Stop Center. She said she had learned to be careful by protecting her passwords and other vital information.

“I believe in learning one day at a time, whatever your age,” she said.

The courses can also be for fun – Holder said that the lessons have helped her sail in his electronics for entertainment.

“I play a lot of matches,” she said. “I learned the basics of using my iPad and, of course, how to use my mobile phone.”

Suzanne Garcia said she needed an application to do her shopping, so she takes the lessons to stay up to date.

But after being hacked in the past, she said she was very careful about her technology.

“I can do mychart, I don’t have a bank, no CPS, something like that, because I was hacked once and it took an eternity so as not to be excited,” said Garcia. “But I learned to access Facebook, to use Instagram.”

Aarp offers live online technology courses for seniors at Seniorplanet.org. The website also A schedule for lessons in person.
