A knife attack on Saturday in the east France Leave a dead person and at least two other injured, the authorities said, in violence qualified as Islamic extremism by President Emmanuel Macron.
A 37 -year -old Algerian was arrested, prosecutors said. The attack occurred in the French city of Mulhouse near a covered market in the canal. The region borders Germany and Switzerland.

The office of the French anti -terrorist prosecutor said he managed the investigation. Macron said the aggressor was an Islamic extremist, adding that the government has “total determination” to respond to the attack.
France is under high alert for extremist threats. The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, was heading for the attack on Saturday evening.
The victim was a 69 -year -old Portuguese, said the office of the anti -terrorist prosecutor. The injured were police officers who intervened.
The suspect was on a list of people reported for radicalism, said the regional prosecutor.
