“I said… oh, he thinks he shot me too,” Bottoms said Jorge Estevez from Channel 2. “So I was tickled enough to see one, the President of the United States thought of me the day after his historic inauguration at 1:30 a.m.”
“Doesn’t the president have the right to declare to his supporters and the country that he is letting people from a previous administration go?” Estevez asked.
“He certainly does, but I had already sent my resignation to President Biden on January 4 and I said it would be effective January 20,” she responded.
Bottoms said she is putting everything behind her now and looking toward a return to Georgia politics.
“When I left the mayor’s office, I always said ‘never say never,’” Bottoms said.
“For races in Georgia?” Estevez asked.
“For the Georgia races,” she replied.
“So you’re saying there might be something you want to run for in our state?” Estevez asked.
“There might be,” she replied.
“And what could that be? he asked.
“Well, there will be a governor’s race on the ballot,” she laughed.
The Georgia governor’s race will have a Republican and Democratic challenger because Gov. Brian Kemp cannot run for a third term.
“But do you think the people of this state are ready for a woman governor, a woman of color, someone with a political background that they can look at and decide?” Estevez asked.
“Absolutely. Absolutely,” Bottoms replied.
She said she wants the president to succeed on his campaign promises.
Among them, she mentioned reducing inflation, ending the war in Ukraine and resolving the immigration issue.
